Saturday, February 4, Noon – 3 p.m.: Obama/Biden Campaign Kickoff on Camano Island. Join Obama supporters on Camano Island to learn about the Obama/Biden campaign’s plans for the 2012 election! There will be discussions about ways to get involved, plus an outline of upcoming events with amazing volunteer opportunities. RSVP to the Obama campaign to get the location. Wednesday, February 8, at 7 p.m.: Camano Island Democrats meeting. Island County Commissioners Angie Homola and Helen Price Johnson will be the featured speakers at the February 8 meeting of the Camano Island Democrats. They will be asked to tell us about themselves; their backgrounds; what brought them to politics; their motivations; and their visions for the future.
The Board has made a request that every member invite a Democrat who does not belong to Camano Democrats to attend with you. All of this is to help insure that the two democratic commissioners will be reelected. The meeting will start promptly at 7 pm at the Vista/Madrona Fire Station, 273 N. West Camano Drive.
Monday, February 20: Washington State Democrats Annual Crab Feed and Grassroots Forum. These events will be held at St. Martin’s University Pavillion, 5200 Pacific Ave. SE, Lacy, WA. The Forum runs from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, and the Crab Feed begins at 5:00. For more information or to register, go to the Washington State Democrats’ events page.
Mark your calendars for two very important Democratic events coming up in April: The 2012 Island County Precinct Caucuses and the 2012 Island County Democratic Convention. These are the ground-level meetings where delegates to next summer’s Democratic National Convention will begin the selection process.
Sunday, April 15, 2012: The Island County Precinct Caucuses will beheld at 1:00 p.m. at four locations around Island County. Each of Island County’s 83 precincts will elect delegates to the County Convention. The caucus locations are: North Whidbey Middle School – Sue Tingstad, caucus coordinator Coupeville Middle/High School – Doug McKee, caucus coordinator South Whidbey High School – Duane Fulgham, caucus coordinator Utsalady Elementary School – Mary Hughes, caucus coordinator
We will provide much more information for you as the date for the caucuses approaches, but if you have any questions now, please contact the caucus coordinator for your area. Not everyone is happy about the Sunday date for the caucuses, but Washington State Democrats set this date for the state-wide meetings.
Sunday, April 29, 2012: The Island County Convention will be held at Langley Middle School in Langley at 10:00 a.m. Delegates chosen at the precinct caucus will elect delegates to the 2nd Congressional District Caucuses and the State Democratic Convention.
