Our friend, Ray Miller, from the 10th LD Democrats will be the featured speaker at Hero House in Bellevue:
For Dine with a Hero on December 20th, 2011, our last one of the year, we will have a gentleman by the name of Raymond Miller. He is an employee of Therapeutic Health Services and he runs the Veterans Program there. He also is the president and founder of the Vets Place Northwest-Welcome Home, past commander and founder of the Washington State Command Council, National Association for Black Veterans (NABVETS), Inc, and past chairman of the National Coordinating Council NABVETS.
Ray, as he likes to be known, is a nationally certified veteran service officer and veteran advocate authorized by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs to represent veterans for the purpose of filing claims for benefits and discharge upgrade services. Ray has helped more the 400 veterans and their families go on from homelessness to owning their own homes or having secured long term stable housing. As a National Service Officer he has helped veterans and their families receive more than 200 million dollars in benefits and services from the United States Dept. of Veteran affairs.
Raymond is well qualified. He is a US Air Force and Vietnam Era veteran and has attended the Doctoral Psychology Program at Argosy University. He is a graduate of the Evergreen State College and has also completed his Certification as a Chemical Dependency Specialist from Seattle Central Community College. He is a hard working guy. Currently he is Chairman of the 10th Legislative District Democrats, Vice- President of the Snohomish Count Branch of the NAACP, Chair of the Snohomish County Veterans Affairs Advisory Council and budget chair person plus Chair of the Snohomish County NAACP Armed Services and veteran affairs. He has been on 6 other commissions and abuse advocacy boards. He also worked for Governor John Kerry and was Democrat of the Year in 2002. From 1997 to 2004 he was a member of the Washington State Governors Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee.
